UCF SDS at the Atlanta Peace March
More than 4000 people marched on Sat. April 1 in Atlanta for
"Peace in Iraq and Justice at Home" in a vibrant and multi-cultural
display of people's power and opposition to policies of war, racism,
poverty and injustice. UCF SDS made the eight hour drive to be a part
of this Southeastern demand for an end to the war. The demonstration
was held during the week that commemorates Dr. King's death. The
pictures below depict SDS members in front of the First Ebeneezer
Baptist Church.
Dr. King once said, "I could never again raise my voice against the
violence of the oppressed in the ghettos without having first spoken
clearly to the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today -- my
own government. For the sake of those boys, for the sake of this government,
for the sake of the hundreds of thousands trembling under our
violence, I cannot be silent."
In the theme of Dr. King, these SDSers will not be silent either. We
remember the true heroes of America and continue the struggle for peace
in their absence.
