SDS/MDS Chapters Send Letter of Support to French Students
The NYC Chapters of Students for a Democratic Society have issued a statement of solidarity with the French Student Confederation. The French version of the letter (below) is followed by English and German translations. A list of endorsers in formation follows the English translation.

Les Etudiants pour une Societe Democratique (SDS) sont solidaires avec vous dans votre resistance contre le Contrat Premiere Embauche (CPE) Le soi- disant CPE comme il est presente maintenant aux autres pays est une proposition qui aura des consequences nefastes. C'est une calamite pour les jeunes qui cherchent du travail et servira seulement a enrichir les patrons aux depens des travaileurs.
Cette propositon deplorable n'addresse en rien le chomage qui est de 20% chez les jeunes. Nous sommes convaincus que ceder aux demandes des patrons en rendant un salarie sujet au licenciement a tous moments selon la volonte de son patron n'est pas une strategie legitime pour allevier le chomage. C'est en fait une manipulation cynique de la situation.
Mr De Villepin demontre un manque complet de vision et d'imagination dans ses facons d'addresser le probleme du chomage, nous suggerons qu'il assiste a quelques cours d'economie dans l'une des ses excellentes universites Francaises aujourdhui occupees.
Votre courage nous donne de l'inspiration pour notre movement pour la democratie. En verite, nous declarons a tous les jeunes de France qui liront cette declaration que nous sommes de tout coeur avec eux et solidaire contre tous les desavantages economiques et autres que l'etat Francais voudrait leur imposer.
Les circonstances autour du CPE sont telles que c'est une tentative evidente d'exploiter la jeunesse Francaise dans le marche du travail.
C'est dans cet esprit que nous annoncons un jour de solidarite et d'action le 28 Mars, 2006. Nous sommes solidaires avec votre lutte contre toute tentative d'exploiter la jeunesse Francaise
Nous vous encourageons a continuer votre lutte jusqu'a ce que vous obteniez justice. Nous sommes solidaires aujourd'hui, le 28 Mars et aussi lontemps qu'il le faudra. Nous sommes solidaires dans votre combat pour la democratie.

SDS Letter of Support (English)
To The French Student Confederation From SDS NYC:
Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) stands in solidarity with you in your resistance to the First Employment Contract (CPE).
The so called First Employment Contract, as it has been presented to the international community, is a proposition that would have devastating consequences. It is a disaster for the young person seeking employment and would serve only to enrich employers at the expense of oung workers. This pathetic proposition fails completely in its ostensible goal of addressing the 20% unemployment rate among French youth. We remain firmly convinced that catering to the needs of an employer, making a worker subject to dismissal on the whim of an employer, is not a legitimate strategy for alleviating unemployment. It is a cynical maneuver.
If Mr. Villepan lacks sufficient creativity and vision to think of another way to address the problem of unemployment, we suggest he attend a lecture in economics at one of the newly occupied, fine French Universities.
Your courage provides our movement with inspiration. Let it be clear to all French youth, and to all youth whom this statement may reach: we wholeheartedly resist any repression or economic disadvantage visited upon the young people of France by the French government.
The CPE contract circumstances are a blatant attempt to exploit the youth in France's labor force. As long as you feel it necessary to resist the measures that Mr. Villepan has put forth, we will resist with you.
In this spirit we are issuing a call for a day of solidarity actions on March 28th, 2006. We stand with you in your fight against this new legislation. We stand with you in the struggle against any and all attempts to exploit the youth of France. We urge you to continue your protest for as long as it takes to secure justice. We are with you today, on March 28th, and as long as you need us. We stand with you in the struggle for democracy!

PRESSEMITTEILUNG
An die Französische Studentenverbindung von SDS NYC
Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) steht soldarisch zu Euch in
Eurem Widerstandskampf zum First Employment Contract (CPE).
Der so genannte First Employment Contract, so wie er der internationalen Gemeinschaft präsentiert wurde, ist ein Angebot mit verheerenden Konsequenzen. Er ist ein Unglück für junge Menschen die Arbeit suchen und dient den ausschließlich reichen Arbeitgebern zu Ungunsten der jungen Arbeiter. Dieses armselige Angebot versagt vollständig dabei, sein vordergründiges Ziel zu erreichen, die Arbeitslosenrate von 20% bei jungen französischen Arbeitern zu senken. Wir bleiben weiterhin fest davon überzeugt, dass es keine angemessene Strategie zur Bekämpfung der Arbeitslosigkeit ist, die Arbeiter zu einem Objekt der Beliebigkeit in den Händen des Arbeitgebers zu machen. Dies ist eher ein zynisches Manöver.
Wenn Herr Villepan nicht genügend Kreativität und Vorstellungskraft besitzt, einen alternativen Weg zur Bekämpfung der Arbeitslosigkeit zu finden, dann empfehlen wir ihm, eine Vorlesung in Wirtschaftslehre an einer der vielen guten französischen Universitäten zu besuchen.
Euer Mut inspiriert auch unsere Bewegung. Folgendes sagt bitte der gesamten französischen Jugend, und allen anderen, die es erreichen kann: wir widerstehen mit vollem Herzen jedweder Repression oder wirtschaftlichem Schaden, welcher der französischen Jugend durch die französische Regierung angetan wird.
Die Umstände des CPE Vertrages sind ein himmelschreiender Versuch, die Arbeitskraft der französischen Jugend auszubeuten. So lange, wie Ihr meint, den Maßnahmen des Herrn Villepan zu widerstehen, kämpfen wir mit Euch.
In diesem Sinne laden wir zu einem Tag der Solidarität am 28. März 2006 ein. Wir stehen Euch im Kampf gegen diese neue Gesetzgebung bei. Wir sind mit Euch im Kampf gegen die Ausbeutung der französischen Jugend. Wir bitten Euch dringend mit Euren Protesten fortzufahren, so lange wie es notwendig ist um die Gerechtigkeit zu wahren. Wir sind heute mit Euch, am 28. März 2006, und so lange wie Ihr uns braucht. Mit Euch im Kampf für die Demokratie!

Professor Roderick Long once wrote:
"When Marx called the French government 'a joint-stock company for the exploitation of France's national wealth' on behalf of the bourgeois elite and at the expense of production and commerce ('Class Struggles in France'), he was only echoing what libertarians had been saying for decades."
France and all other nation-states remain so today. You and we live in a world where freedom and economic opportunity exist only at the sufferance of a political class that allows us only some small amount of them for sake of their own convenience and take the rest from us by force and coercion for sake of their own parasitism.
Under such circumstances, state-sponsored market liberalization is a cruel joke. The legislation you protest and rebel against seeks only to increase the latitude given your overseers, while maintaining the overall restrictions on your own liberty that, if abolished, would empower you to seek your own prosperity. We believe you and we would be very good at that, mixing both cooperation and peaceful competition, if we were not slaves.
For those reasons, the signers of this letter offer their solidarity to you and present themselves as a sample of a small tendency known as the Movement of the Libertarian Left (MLL), advocates of revolutionary market anarchism or 'agorism'.
It is not the place of others to tell you how to wage your own revolution against tyranny. We have some suggestions, though -- a version of dual power strategy called 'counter-economics'. We humbly recommend MLL founder Samuel Edward Konkin III's small book on agorism, counter-economics, and revolution "The New Libertarian Manifesto" in hopes you may find it useful or inspirational.
