Democrat Steve Harrison announces his intention to run against chickenhawk Vito Fossella (R) in 2008. Fossella misrepresents the 13th Congressional District (SW Brooklyn and Staten Island). This is Harrison's second run. In this clip he remarks that, in his 2006 bid, he got the largest percentage of the vote ever recorded by a Democrat in the 13th CD. He lost, in his view, because he was outspent 15 to 1 by Fossella who is backed by drug companies, the gun lobby, Wal-Mart, oil companies, (over) developers and ... Halliburton.

Harrison talks about how Fossella 'The Independent' has, as judged by his voting record, been a lackey of George W. Bush. Harrison also calls for getting out of Iraq "soon".

Harrison discusses security issues, energy independence, global warming, Gonzalez and illegal wiretapping - and Bush, Cheney and Fossella's contempt for the Constitution.

Harrison speaks out for single payer healthcare, raising the minimum wage, restoring free higher education (at CUNY), ending union busting, helping veterans, protecting social security for seniors, fighting the drug companies and refusing to take money from the NRA gun lobby.

Harrison quips that while our highways crumble "Vito Fossella sits and plays the fiddle". Harrison also notes that "If you don't have ideas, nothing happens. Vito Fossella has no ideas." In addition, Harrison offers his ideas on stopping overdevelopment, preventing a waste transfer station in Gravesend and creating affordable housing.

Harrison on Fossella: "The Congressman's proclivity towards distortion and misrepresentation contributes to America's jaded view of its government."

"I believe in human rights. I believe in the rights of workers. I believe in civil rights. I believe in student rights. I believe in the rights of women. I believe in the rights of gays and lesbians and I believe in the rights of children. I believe in the rights of the disabled and I believe in the rights of the elderly..."
