Message of Greetings and Solidarity from Mike Klonsky (read aloud at the conference by Thomas Good) At last month's anti-war march in Washington, I was really fired up to see a militant contingent of new SDS chapters, marching, chanting and poised ready to storm the citadel of power if necessary, to end this barbaric war in Iraq. They, along with a strong contingent of students from Howard University marching next to us, were all the evidence I needed to understand the potential for a new movement of students and youth, united to carry on the struggle against imperialism and oppression and against these neocon bastards who have grabbed hold of the country. SDS, which organized the first big march against the Vietnam War in 1965, became my political base, my home, my band of brothers and sisters, many of whom I still consider family and comrades 40 years later. I am proud to have been part of that movement for social justice and am ready to sign up for another hitch. We have lost many good folks along the way. Some have been killed. Others are still in prison. We owe it to them to put all petty grievances aside and push the struggle forward,. On the occassion of this first conference on the reorganization of SDS/MDS, I'm saddened that I can't be in New York with you. But I send you my greetings of solidarity and best wishes for a productive and unifying meeting. In struggle, Mike Klonsky SDS National Secretary, 1968-69
