Ward Churchill is a supporter of World Can't Wait; what has that to do with the focus and principles of World Can't Wait ? Mention of this was so silly of Mr. Donner. Congressman Fossella, in the main there is no "battlefield" in Iraq. Our military are fighting a guerrlla war in which they are killing Iraqis, so many of them non-combatant men, women, and children who are being killed/maimed in the hundreds of thousands because we are there. The Iraqis do not want to be occupied, as we Americans would not want to be occupied and so our soldiers and marines are being killed/maimed because they have been sent into a war of choice, which was entered into on the basis of a lie (any touted 'benefits' of the invasion notwithstanding). President Bush, with hubris, said "bring 'em on" and that is what has happened. Such carnage! Congressman Fossella, we cannot repair the Iraq we have broken physically, socially, economically. It is known that before our invasion, there was among the various ethnic groups an imperfect but in place "modus vivendi", which we managed to upset, disaster resulting. We must, if we have any honor, allow the Iraqis to design and manage the reconstruction and healing of their country. As you well know, there are international bodies capable of assisting them in this endeavor if so requested by the Iraqis. Yes, we will need to make reparations. Congressman Fossella, we are all aware of the implications of the Project for the New American Century, but if we are to exist without systematically assaulting sovereign nations (and one hopes this is our desire), we must be prepared to seek other than belligerent approaches to securing and ensuring availability of needed resources. With regard to Iraq the question has been asked "How did our oil get under their sand?" If we are serious about lessening the threat of terrorism, we need to deal not only with pursuit of terrorists but also with cause and effect with regard to our policies and actions. Our military must be brought out of Iraq. As I write this, people in Iraq are dying for nought because of our military presence there. Funds approved should be approved for purpose deployment of our troops out of Iraq. Barbara Walker Silver Lake
